Community
Dr. Filippi was
born and raised in Redwood City, California
and has been an active and prominent figure
in the community for over 22 years. Serving
on various city committees, commissions and
civic organizations, Dr. Filippi has demonstrated
a wide array of interests ranging from cultural
activities, historical preservation, and youth
music and health education.
Three
of his most proud endeavors have been the founding
of the Sequoia High School Alumni Association
in 1985 at the age of 26 (his first year in
private practice), spearheading the historic
replication of Redwood City’s most notable
“Climate Best” land mark welcome
arch in 1994, and the development of 2 enrichment
classes he has taught in the elementary schools.
One of the classes is devoted to music enrichment
and is titled “Let There Be Drums”
and features information, visual aids, and student
participation in the various aspects of drumming.
His other class deals with spinal health and
is called “Straighten Up and Fly Right”.
Students have an opportunity to view x-rays,
spinal models and discuss proper ways of sitting,
standing and sleeping and the negative effects
of bad posture. Both classes emphasize student
participation and interaction.
For his efforts, he has
received many awards and accolades. The following
are a list of civic involvement activities and
awards:

When not in the office…
Dr.
Filippi is an avid collector of vintage drums
and stereo equipment. Yes, he even has and plays
vinyl LP records and reel to reel tapes. Music
is an important part of his life when not in
the office. He has played and studied drums
since 3rd grade. He has owned and led two 17
piece dance bands over the past 20 years and
is a fan of the 1940’s swing era music
and the 60’s and 70’s era rock music.
In his free time he enjoys playing in both dance
bands and local musicals.
When
not playing music, he enjoys working on and
driving his 1956 Ford Thunderbird classic. “Happiness
truly is T-Birding.”
