How Dr. Filippi’s additional post graduate
credentials – D.A.B.C.O. and F.A.C.O. set
him apart from the rest?
First, to gain a
more meaningful perspective, the number of licenses
held by doctors of chiropractic in the U.S. is approximately
81,343. Outside of the U.S. the total approximates
16,040 for a grand total of 97,383 active licenses
issued. (A doctor may hold multiple licenses to
practice in different states/countries.)*

In
the chiropractic field there are a limited number
of different specialties that doctors may wish
to pursue such as radiology, nutrition, sports,
internal disorders, and orthopedics. To qualify
for an additional specialty degree requires extensive
post graduate classroom/lab training. Doctors
interested in the field of chiropractic orthopedics
must attend monthly classes scheduled on the weekend
for a period of 2 to 3 years. Upon successful
course completion, the doctor is then eligible
to take a comprehensive written and oral board
examination. If the doctor passes both examinations
he/she is then awarded the specialty degree. D.A.B.C.O
– Diplomate of the American Board of Chiropractic
Orthopedists.
At this point, the doctor
is eligible to apply for membership in the Academy
of Chiropractic Orthopedists. Once elected to
the membership, the title of FELLOW is granted
to the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists (F.A.C.O.)
What is a Chiropractic
Orthopedist?
†
Chiropractic Orthopedists are Doctors of Chiropractic
who can be licensed to practice in all 50 states,
Canada and many other countries of the world.
The Chiropractic Orthopedist has extensive, specialized
training in examination and treatment procedures
emphasizing primarily the neuromusculoskeletal
structures of the body including the spine and
the extremity joints as well as the related soft
tissues. This involves conditions affecting bones,
joints, muscles, tendon, ligaments, cartilage
and related nerve structures.
A Chiropractic Orthopedist
successfully completing a rigorous examination
process by a chiropractic orthopedic certifying
body is a Certified Chiropractic Orthopedist and
is eligible to become a Fellow of the Academy
of Chiropractic Orthopedists (F.A.C.O.)
The Chiropractic Orthopedist
handles both acute health problems such as sports,
occupational and other injuries, as well as more
chronic conditions including arthritis, scoliosis,
and fibromyalgia using advanced procedures of
x-ray, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed
tomography imaging (CT), electrodiagnostic studies
(EMG, nerve conduction) and clinical laboratory
procedure to assist in the diagnostic process.
What does a Chiropractic
Orthopedist do?
†
In the course of treatment, the Chiropractic Orthopedist
applies adjustive procedures along with other
treatment options such as physiological therapeutics,
nutrition, structural supports, corrective devices,
exercise and rehabilitation regimens, preventive
care advice and home therapy programs for patient
wellness.
The Chiropractic Orthopedist
focuses practice primarily to neuromusculoskeletal
structures, and remains abreast of the latest
research and development through continuing education,
by attendance at chiropractic orthopedic conventions
and seminars.
Fellow of the Academy keep
their certification status current by completing
re-certification requirements on a periodic basis,
including attendance at post-graduate programs,
symposia and conventions.
The Chiropractic Orthopedist
is often used by medical practitioners for consultation,
by the legal profession and the insurance industry
for evaluation and treatment of patients, and
the courts for the giving of expert testimony.
Patients who have suffered
from conditions that have not responded favorably
to previous treatment may seek a doctor with specialized
training in advanced non-surgical orthopedic procedures
and diagnostic methods.
